The Willful winemaking style embodies the duality of strong will and restraint when necessary. Pinot Noir can be a tough grape to work with, but can also be the most rewarding in its elegance, balance, and complexity. We seek to unleash its unique complexity with gentle viticulture, native yeast fermentation, and minimal French oak influence, bringing out the true nature of the grape from carefully selected Willamette Valley vineyards.
We produce two Pinot Noirs under the Willful label. The Willamette Valley blend uses all of the vineyards that Pam works with to showcase the best qualities of what each vintage has to offer. The Winemaker Cuvée Pinot Noir is a limited bottling of the very best barrels in the cellar, usually all Pommard clone, showing richer fruit and a little more structure for a beautifully age-worthy wine.
We also experiment each year with a non-Pinot varietal to keep things interesting! So far, this has included Cabernet Franc in 2012, Tempranillo in 2013, and a Bordeaux-style blend from the Oregon side of Walla Walla. Stay tuned for what we'll come up with next!
We also produce a second label called Jezebel which includes two fruit-driven, approachable wines perfect for everyday drinking and sharing. Our Jezebel Blanc is a lovely off-dry blend of Alsatian grapes (Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewurztrainer, and Muscat). Jezebel Pinot Noir incorporates fruit from both Willamette Valley and Southern Oregon vineyards to provide a fruit-forward style of Pinot that appeals to all palates.
