Our Wines: Unruly, Wild

Carefully managed Oregon grapes are fermented using native, ‘wild’ yeasts. We think this makes a more complex wine and produces the greatest expression of the terroir. We generally use a minimum of new oak to maintain focus on the fruit and strive to create Pinot Noir that is elegant, nuanced and cellar-worthy.
We also experiment each year with a non-pinot varietal which has included Willful Cabernet Franc, Tempranillo, Merlot and a Bordeaux blend from Walla Walla. Additionally, we produce a second line called Jezebel, including Jezebel Blanc and Jezebel Pinot Noir, two approachable, fruit-forward wines perfect for everyday drinking.
Our Winemaker: Determined, Pertinacious
As the saying goes, "where there's a will, there's a way," and Pam Walden is nothing if not willful. Her intention has always been to live life to the fullest, with a strong work ethic and independent spirit that embraces the unknown.
Pam Walden started in the wine business in 2000 with her then partner and husband Aron Hess. After they divorced in 2009, she took over the winemaking and created Willful Wines starting with the 2011 vintage using the first crop from the vineyard that they planted in the Dundee Hills. After Aron died tragically young at the beginning of 2013, Pam sold the vineyard to be able to spend more time with her two boys, Samson and Cato. She continued to work hard in the cellar and the vineyard, learning everything she could from friends and colleagues and honing a style all her own that is now the heart of Willful Wine Co.
